The exciting bit of a trip along Borland Road and down into Grebe Valley and South Arm of Lake Manapouri. There is quite a large drop off down into the Grebe Valley that makes one concentrate like never before.
It is an access road to maintain the high voltage power line that services the aluminium smelter at Bluff. It ends at the South Arm of Lake Manapouri where there is a “Doc” camp, one of the most basic types. Lots of sandflies, ie you either need nuclear grade insect repellent or be completely covered.
