At the start of the road to Mesopotamia is the old Mt Peel Station Homestead and it’s nearby Church built by the Acland family. I always pop in and have a look. Last time I was down it had suffered damage at the time of the 2010 Canterbury earthquake and the end was propped up with large timbers and the stained glass window was smashed.
It is called The Church of the Holy Innocents in memory of three children that the Acland family lost.
It is good to see that it has been restored, it always seems to be amazingly peaceful to me. The homestead is visible down an avenue through the trees and looks like a gingerbread house.
